Changes In Google Search Behaviour & How It Affects Your Store

Google search volume for stores has been declining rapidly over the past few years.

For example, here’s a graph of searches for “Toy Store” over the past 10 years from Google Trends:

Does this mean that parents have stopped buying toys for their kids? Not at all. In fact, the opposite is true: toy sales have been steadily growing over the past few years.

What it does mean is that consumer search behaviour is trending.

Thanks to the proliferation of online information and public product reviews, consumers are more educated than ever before in their purchasing decisions. This means that they’re going shopping knowing exactly what they want.

Take a look at this graph showing the volume of Google searches for “Jenga” vs. “Toy Store” over the past year:

Now let’s look at what happens when you compare the volume of searches for 10 typical toy store products to the volume of searches for “Toy Store”:

See that little black line at the bottom? That searches for toy stores.

As you can see, the search volume for just these 100 products massively outranks searches for toy stores.

Now keep in mind that most stores stock hundreds or even thousands of products that customers are likely searching for.

People are searching for specific products and, if they’re to remain competitive, stores need to be found for these searches.

So, how can a store make sure they’re found for these searches?

That’s where our Pointy device comes in:
